An in-absentia trial of five representatives of the Kalinouski Regiment will begin at the Minsk City Court on Aug. 20. The defendants are Mikalai Boika, Yury Makitau, Natallia Nikitsina, Krystsina Stankevich and Mikhail Chuprynski, the human rights center Viasna reports.
They have been charged under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus:
- participation in a criminal organization (Article 285),
- conspiracy to seize power (Article 357),
- participation in an extremist formation (Article 361-1),
- participation in the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation or armed conflict, military operations, as well as recruitment or training of persons for such participation (Article 361-3),
- facilitating extremist activities (Article 361-4),
- undergoing training or other preparation to participate in extremist activities (Article 361-5),
- participation in a terrorist organization (Article 290-5).
