Cost Of Belarusian Potash Supplies To China Doubles In January-July

Belarusian potash supplies to China continued to grow in value in July. This is indicated by China’s customs statistics for the first seven months of the year. China significantly increased its imports of potash fertilizers this summer compared with the same period last year amid rising prices.

China imported 10 million tonnes of potash fertilizers in January-July, 47.9% more than in the same period last year. In value terms, imports rose 84.9% to $3.63 billion.

In July, China purchased 1.27 million tonnes of potash fertilizers, 2.4 times the figure recorded a year earlier. In value terms, imports increased 2.7 times to $461.3 million.

Imports of potash fertilizers from Belarus in January-July amounted to $809.86 million, 2.05 times more than in the same period last year. Supplies also increased from other countries: from Russia, by 62.2% to $1.18 billion; from Canada, by 85.9% to $596.1 million; from Laos, 2.2 times to $651.1 million; and from Israel, by 57.9% to $170 million.

In July, Chinese buyers imported $113.6 million worth of potash fertilizers from Belarus, 6.5 times more than in the same month last year. Compared with June this year, supplies almost doubled.

Russia was the largest supplier of potash to China in July, with $148.4 million worth of fertilizers purchased, 80.6% more than a year earlier. Laos was the second-largest supplier, with imports rising 1.9 times to $83.5 million. July purchases from Canada increased 2.9 times to $4.72 million.

According to Chinese customs statistics, the total value of imports of goods from Belarus in the first seven months of the year rose 33.2% to $1.26 billion.
