Anatol Liabedzka, an adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on constitutional reform and parliamentary cooperation, spoke about the outcome of a meeting of the inter-factional parliamentary association “For a Democratic Belarus” in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada. According to him, Ukrainian MPs will support several initiatives related to Belarusians.

In particular, the lawmakers will provide legislative support for an initiative by Veranika Yanovich, the widow of Belarusian volunteer Aliaksei Lazarau, who was killed in Ukraine. The initiative concerns the possibility of granting the title of Hero of Ukraine to foreigners and stateless persons.

The MPs also intend to join the German-Swiss initiative “Godparents of Belarusian Political Prisoners.”

In addition, Ukrainian lawmakers plan to participate in Belarusian-Ukrainian initiatives, including the Ostrogski Forum. They also intend to support a public initiative to install the white-red-white flag at the Grunwald battlefield.

According to Liabedzka, Ukrainian MPs will continue to support the integration of Belarusians living in Ukraine.
