Two cases have been recorded in Belarus over the past week in which drivers fatally hit pedestrians and fled the scene, the Interior Ministry reported.

Over the weekend, a 52-year-old driver hit a 17-year-old pedestrian in the Homiel Region. He fled the scene but was later detained. The pedestrian was not wearing a reflective tag.

The second case occurred on the night of Aug. 18 near the village of Bayary in the Polatsk District. A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed, while the driver fled the scene. A 50-year-old man was detained at his place of residence. He had already been caught driving under the influence three times.
