Belarus will close its embassy in Finland. A resolution of the Belarusian Council of Ministers No. 424 dated Aug. 20, titled “On the Closure of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Finland,” has been registered in the national legal acts registry. The resolution has not yet been published, and the timeline for closing the embassy is not yet known.

It should be recalled that Aliaksandr Lukashenka, following the imposition of sanctions against him by European countries in 2021, advocated a review of the deployment of diplomatic missions abroad. For example, he proposed reducing the staff of Belarusian diplomatic missions in Europe. He also called for optimizing Belarusian embassies in the EU and opening diplomatic missions instead in countries in Africa and Asia.

Belarus closed its embassy in Canada in 2021. In 2023, its embassy in Slovakia was closed, but it was reopened in 2025 after Robert Fico came to power in the country.
