A farewell ceremony for politician and scholar, and former Belarusian presidential candidate Aliaksandr Milinkevich is being held in Warsaw today. He will be buried at the Powązki Military Cemetery.
The farewell ceremony began at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Cathedral at 8 Świętojańska Street. The service is being conducted by Father Viachaslau Barok, chaplain of Belarusian Catholics in Warsaw. The funeral is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka and other representatives of democratic forces attended the ceremony.
Milinkevich’s death was reported on Aug. 11. In November last year, he underwent a complicated carotid artery operation. He remained in serious condition for a long time afterward and underwent rehabilitation.
