Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn held an operational meeting today on the situation in the construction sector following the results of the first four months of the year.

According to Belstat data, housing commissioning in January–April decreased by 26.6% to 842,100 square metres, including housing built with state support, which fell by 41.2% to 125,200 square metres. The volume of construction and installation work declined by 4.8% to 7.5 billion Belarusian rubles.

According to the government press service, the purpose of the meeting was to direct all regions, led by the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, toward “unconditional delivery of positive dynamics in construction and fulfilment of the assigned targets”. The discussion also covered the implementation of state programmes and the use of budget funds. The Minister of Architecture and Construction was instructed to take personal control of the construction situation in the regions.

“Aliaksandr Turchyn strongly warned the minister and deputy heads of the regions that if there is no substantial positive momentum by the end of the first five months, the government will make corresponding personnel decisions,” the press service added.
