Lukashenka Replaces First Deputy Chief Of General Staff

Major General Andrei Matsievich, first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces, has been relieved of his post. The relevant decree was signed by Aliaksandr Lukashenka.

Matsievich has been discharged from military service into the reserve due to age, with the right to wear his military uniform and insignia.

Matsievich had served as first deputy chief of the General Staff since 2023.

Lukashenka continues to make personnel changes in the Armed Forces. In June-July 2026, new deputy defense ministers, a deputy defense minister for logistics and chief of the Armed Forces Logistics Service, chief of the Armed Forces Main Directorate for Combat Training, chief of communications of the Armed Forces and head of the General Staff Communications Directorate, deputy chief of the General Staff for Combat Control, and deputy chief of the General Staff and chief of the Main Operations Directorate were appointed.
