A meeting devoted to adjusting street lighting operating schedules was held in Belarus under the supervision of the Energy Ministry.
The issue was raised following criticism voiced by Alyaksandr Lukashenka the previous day at a meeting on the development of Vitsyebsk Region. He expressed dissatisfaction that street lighting is switched on and operates at times when it is already sufficiently light outside.
The Energy Ministry said that, together with local authorities, it has been instructed to develop a unified approach to street lighting schedules. This approach предусматривает taking into account sunrise and sunset times, as well as specific conditions in populated areas, including rural localities. Separate operating modes are planned to be retained for high-risk zones — near schools, hospitals, and pedestrian crossings.
“Street lighting management is largely carried out remotely using software systems, which makes it possible to promptly adjust schedules without manual intervention and with consideration of the specific characteristics of each area,” the ministry said.
