Russian businessman Dmitry Mizgir has been detained in Belarus. Izvestia reported. He is suspected of organizing a fraudulent scheme involving the supply of stewed meat to Russian units waging war against Ukraine. According to the publication, the man was detained by operatives of the Belarusian KGB.
Mizgir had been wanted for about three months. At some point, Russian security officials received information that he was in Belarus and was trying to leave the country. The Belarusian KGB became involved in the case. Several addresses were checked, and meanwhile the wanted man began calling acquaintances. He was tracked through telephone conversations and street surveillance cameras.
The case centers on the supply of stewed meat to Russia’s Defense Ministry by the Narmyasprom company. The canned food was produced at the Selyatino meat-processing plant in Naro-Fominsk, Moscow Region, which is affiliated with the company.
According to the publication, the canned food contained pork carcass trimmings, starch, food additives prohibited by state standards, lard and other ingredients instead of meat, in violation of the recipe. The damage to the Defense Ministry is estimated at 700 million Russian rubles. In total, 170 metric tons of substandard canned food were supplied to the military in 2024-2025.
According to investigators, Viktor Tarazevich, head of the Defense Ministry’s Food Directorate, was involved in organizing the supplies and received bribes from businessmen.
