Russian and German representatives did meet in Baku, but the contacts were informal. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said this in an interview with TASS.

“There have been and are no official contacts with Germany on the issue of a settlement in Ukraine, nor are they likely to be possible given the extremely aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric and practical steps by the German political leadership.

As for informal meetings between representatives of various public organizations from Russia and Germany, they have taken place and continue,” he said.

It was reported that in July, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that former German and Russian officials had met in Baku on July 12-14 to discuss Ukraine. Later, media reported meetings between former officials from several European countries and Russia in Vienna.
