Belarusian medical professionals in exile are launching the “Rayonka” project, an online clinic. It is intended for vulnerable groups — political prisoners, large families and single parents, as well as people from small towns and villages without access to quality medical care. The project was presented by Stanislau Salavei, Deputy Representative of the UTC for Social Policy, at the “New Belarus” conference.
““Rayonka” is essentially an online clinic designed for vulnerable groups. By this, we mean not only political prisoners, large families and single parents. We also include people who live outside major cities — in small towns and villages, where problems with the availability and quality of medical care often arise”, Salavei explained.
Only medical professionals who have left Belarus will work at “Rayonka.” The first patients are expected to be seen next month.
Particular attention is being paid to the safety of both doctors and patients.
“Both patients and doctors will be anonymous. Different people will handle their verification: medical professionals will be verified by one group of specialists, while patients who are in Belarus will be verified by another. This is being done for their protection, because we understand that the authorities react very nervously when we try to show that something is wrong with medical care in the country”, Salavei said.
