Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the recall of its ambassador to Russia. The move followed the fall and explosion of a jet-powered drone on the country’s territory.
“This incident represents a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and poses a threat to the security of our citizens.
The Republic of Moldova condemns the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the security of our country and the entire region.
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is recalling the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Moscow for consultations”, the Moldovan ministry said in a statement.
The drone fell and exploded on Sunday near the village of Crocmaz in Stefan Voda District. On Monday morning, Moldovan police officially confirmed the incident.
The drone struck a tree and exploded at a height of 2.5 meters, causing fragments of the aircraft to scatter over a large area and damaging nearby houses. The explosion occurred in a wooded area outside the village. No one was injured in the explosion or the subsequent fire.
“The fragments found are similar in their characteristics to components of a guided missile, indicating that this could be a missile drone,” police said. “To date, there have been no cases in Moldova of identifying an aircraft of this type.”
