Seasonal Vegetables Saw The Sharpest Price Increases In July

Seasonal vegetables topped the list of price increases in July. This is according to Belstat data. At the same time, food prices overall fell by 0.3% last month.

Beetroot prices rose by 57.98% in July compared with June, carrots by 19.91%, onions by 16.74%, sweet peppers by 14.13%, avocados by 12.43%, and potatoes by 9.87%. Such increases are typical for the summer months as produce from the new harvest becomes available.

Vegetables also saw the largest price declines, mainly those whose supply is already sufficiently large. Fresh tomatoes fell by 22.13% over the month, cucumbers by 19.25%, white cabbage by 19.17%, bananas by 7.22%, apples by 5.6%, and chocolate by 5.2%.

Compared with December last year, carrot prices rose by 91.9%, beetroot by 84.58%, potatoes by 81.55%, onions by 44.33%, and grapes by 27.24%.

The largest price declines compared with December were recorded for cucumbers (-60.72%), tomatoes (-26.33%), apples (-24.64%), citrus fruits (-9.35%), and bananas (-6.48%).
