Small and Medium-Sized Businesses Contributed 27.4% of Belarus’s GDP

The contribution of small and medium-sized businesses to Belarus’s GDP amounted to 27.4%. They also generated 46.1% of the total revenue of Belarusian enterprises, or 328.3 billion Belarusian rubles. These figures were published today by Belstat.

The contribution to GDP was 17% from small businesses, 8% from medium-sized businesses, 1.7% from individual entrepreneurs and 0.7% from self-employed people.

As of January 1, there were 135,000 active small and medium-sized enterprises in the country, including 132,800 small enterprises and 2,200 medium-sized enterprises, as well as 204,400 individual entrepreneurs. Another 250,500 individuals were engaged in entrepreneurial activity.

The most common areas of economic activity among small and medium-sized enterprises and individual entrepreneurs were:

  • wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (34.5% of the total),
  • transportation and storage, postal and courier activities (13.9%),
  • industry (8.5%),
  • professional, scientific and technical activities (7.6%),
  • construction (7.6%).
