Serbia will provide Ukraine with €2 million to support its energy sector. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this following a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut on Aug. 8.
The meeting also addressed joint economic and logistics projects, including the development of the Danube corridor and strengthening ties between Ukraine, the Western Balkans and the European Union.
Serbia also expressed its readiness to join the reconstruction of one of Ukraine’s cities.
Zelenskyy also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The sides discussed the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and Serbia, as well as other issues of bilateral cooperation.
Vučić assured Zelenskyy of Serbia’s support for Ukraine’s European path.
“We will not say: ‘Take us first, don’t take Ukraine.’ Ukraine will never have such a problem, at least from one small country such as Serbia,” Vučić said at a news conference.
The Serbian president also expressed doubts that the war would end soon.
“But if you ask me as a political veteran, I will tell you that I am not sure about that. I am very afraid that we will have a very difficult winter. First and foremost for your people, but also for everyone else around the world. But on the other hand, I hope — and this is simply hope, without any real facts to support these hopes — that it will end tomorrow. But I do not see how that could happen, to be frank,” Vučić said.
