The Council of Ministers has approved the international technical assistance project “Improving Methods for the Safe Management of Nuclear Legacy Sites”.
The project is financed by the IAEA. The recipients of the funding will be the Ministry of Emergency Situations, its Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, the State Scientific and Technical Institution “Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety”, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Polesie State Radiation and Ecological Reserve, Belhydromet and the Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
“Implementation of the project will make it possible to improve the competencies of specialists carrying out activities in territories affected by the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The project also provides for the supply of measuring equipment for assessing radioactive contamination of the environment and radiation monitoring equipment,” the government press service explained.
