Alyaksandr Lukashenka has said he intends to personally take part in the work of the Peace Council. He made the statement to Union State Secretary of State Sergei Glazyev.

“We will definitely participate in this Council at the presidential level. We will definitely take part. Perhaps not in Washington, but somewhere in Europe or the Middle East, maybe in Israel, closer to here, in Turkey, where the next sessions of this Council may take place — we will participate in it.

We have one flag — peace. We want peace. And above all, where our fate lies — Ukraine,” Lukashenka said, according to his press service.

He also outlined to Glazyev his approaches to participation in the Peace Council.

“We seriously intend to work in the Peace Council. In the most serious way. Not to flatter anyone, not to adjust to someone, but to take our own position, a sovereign position,” he said.

He also assured that he is ready to cooperate with Russia in the context of the Peace Council.

“Naturally, this position — of both Russia and Belarus — will be unified. We will work out this position, because we have the same points of view,” he explained.

Last week, Lukashenka’s press secretary Natallia Eismant said that he would not attend the Peace Council session on February 19, which will take place in the United States. The reasons cited were a busy schedule and logistical difficulties related to sanctions. Belarus will be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou.

Today, Lukashenka also stressed that his decision was not influenced by Vladimir Putin, with whom he spoke on February 8.

During today’s meeting, Lukashenka also addressed what he described as conspiracy theories by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service and offered advice to US President Donald Trump regarding Venezuela.
