Alyaksandr Lukashenka, during a meeting with Union State Secretary of State Sergei Glazyev, announced a new date for the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. He said he will meet with Vladimir Putin on February 26.
“It is known — on the 26th, by agreement with the President of Russia,” Lukashenka said, according to his press service.
Earlier, Sergei Glazyev had announced that the Supreme State Council would be held on February 25.
Lukashenka stressed that the main topic of his conversation with Vladimir Putin on February 8 was precisely the session of the State Council, rather than the Peace Council.
“The last time we discussed this issue, it was the main issue of our telephone conversation. Although there has been a lot of conspiracy speculation after that conversation. Especially since this issue coincided with the Peace Council that Donald Trump will hold in Washington, and with my invitation to that council. Therefore, all our negotiations and conversations with President Putin were overshadowed by this issue. Nevertheless, the main, fundamental issue that we discussed was the meeting of the highest body of our Union State and our further contacts with the President of Russia and negotiations on issues concerning Belarus and Russia,” he added.
It should be recalled that a couple of days after the conversation with Putin, Lukashenka’s press secretary Natallia Eismant said that he would not attend the first meeting of the Peace Council due to a tight schedule and logistical difficulties. Belarus will be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou.
