Lukashenka Arrives in Pyongyang

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has begun his visit to the DPRK. His plane departed for Pyongyang yesterday around midnight.

Today, Lukashenka’s press service said he is already in the DPRK capital and that the visit has started.

Lukashenka is visiting the DPRK on an official visit at the invitation of Kim Jong Un. The visit will last from March 25 to 26. It is planned to discuss the full range of areas of development of relations between Belarus and the DPRK, identify key areas of mutual interest, and the most promising projects for implementation.

The visit is intended to strengthen the legal and contractual framework of relations and promote the intensification of bilateral cooperation.

According to Lukashenka’s press service, after arriving in Pyongyang he visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and paid tribute to DPRK leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

“One of the main halls of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is the hall with statues of the two leaders. The bodies of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il lie in ‘halls of immortality’ in sarcophagi.

‘Kumsusan’ translated from Korean means ‘mountain embroidered with gold.’ The memorial is dedicated to the immortality of the leaders, is a symbol of national dignity and is considered an eternal shrine,” the press service explained.
