Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski, head of the Viasna Human Rights Center, who was expelled from Belarus after being released from prison, has been put on a wanted list. His entry has appeared in the Russian Interior Ministry’s wanted persons database.
Bialiatski was put on the wanted list on August 5. The database states that the Belarusian Interior Ministry is seeking him on criminal charges, but it does not specify which ones.
In 2023, Ales Bialiatski was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In December 2025, he was released and forcibly taken from Belarus to Lithuania. In April 2026, the Belarusian authorities invalidated Bialiatski’s passport.
