A summit of Eurasian leaders could take place in Minsk in late 2027. It would be held to approve the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Yury Seliverstau said this.
“The agreed version of the charter is expected to be submitted to a summit of Eurasian leaders, tentatively scheduled for October-December 2027 in Minsk”, he said, BelTA reports.
The text of the charter itself, which the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia intend to promote, does not yet exist. However, in the near future they plan to “bring together like-minded countries and begin working on specific wording based on discussions that have taken place over the past two or three years on various platforms”. One such platform is the Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
According to Seliverstau, the negotiation process to develop the charter is expected to begin in September.
“In September 2026, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, a ministerial meeting is planned to officially launch the negotiation process for developing the Eurasian Charter”, he said.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Alexander Trofimov, the charter itself is being discussed with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, including China, Iran and Southeast Asian countries.
“It may have been somewhat more difficult with the Middle Eastern countries, although it is also moving forward. We are trying to hold discussions with all of Eurasia that is open to constructive dialogue with us”, he said.
