A 29-year-old Belarusian citizen has been detained in Bali. Police found 483 grams of marijuana and 33 grams of cocaine in his possession, Indonesian outlet Deteksi Post reports.
The Belarusian was living in the Ungasan area in southern Bali. Police had information about a package containing marijuana that he had received. When the man was detained at a hotel, officers also found cocaine.
During questioning, the Belarusian said that he had received the cocaine from a Georgian acquaintance. When entering Indonesia, he hid the drugs in clothing packed in his suitcase.
The package of marijuana received by the Belarusian had been sent from Switzerland by a sender named Yegor, with whom the suspect had communicated via Telegram. The Belarusian ordered it under the name of a local resident, asked for it to be collected from the post office and left at the hotel.
Police believe the drugs were intended for sale in Bali.
The Belarusian has been charged under two articles. Under the first article, covering illegal possession of narcotic substances, he faces between four and 12 years in prison and a fine. The second article, covering illegal possession of narcotic substances in large quantities, carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
