A resident of Babruisk went hunting for wild boar but shot a lynx he encountered in the forest, despite knowing the animal is listed in the Red Book. A court sentenced him to two years of “home chemistry” and a fine.

In January 2026, the 40-year-old man took part in a driven hunt for wild boar in the Asipovichy district. During the hunt, he spotted a lynx and shot it, although he was aware of its protected status.

The man was charged with illegal hunting. Environmental damage was estimated at 13,500 roubles. The hunter voluntarily compensated the damage in full and admitted guilt.

The Asipovichy District Court sentenced him to two years of “home chemistry” with a ban on hunting for 2.5 years. He must also pay a fine of 4,500 roubles. A hunting carbine with a digital sight was confiscated, the Mahiliou region prosecutor’s office reports.
