Zrobim architects co-founder Andrei Makouski has been released from custody. He announced this today on Threads, posting a video in which he burns the bag containing the belongings he had with him during his detention.

“There is a tradition that, once you regain your freedom, you burn the things you had with you there. Hi everyone, I’m home,” he wrote.

On April 9 and 10, security forces visited the office of Zrobim architects. Employees who were present at the studio were detained. A Telegram channel affiliated with the security forces linked the detentions to a social media post by Makouski, in which he wrote about receiving a letter from state authorities requiring the company to hire an ideological officer. It was later reported that the security forces’ claims against Zrobim architects were related to tax evasion.

“It was not a completely off-the-books payroll. We had a bonus component that was paid to employees in addition to their salaries, and taxes were not paid on those bonuses. I fully repent of this and admit my guilt. In addition, part of the contract amounts was not fully reflected in the accounting documents, and taxes were not paid on those amounts either.

I sincerely understand that, in pursuit of higher earnings, you naturally want to maintain and increase your income. But you never think about the other side of the issue. We immediately cooperated with the investigation. I confessed at once and submitted a voluntary confession because I understood that what we had done was wrong,” Makouski said in a report aired by state propagandists.

Makouski’s wife confirmed that he was being held in a pre-trial detention centre.
