Leipzig Airport suspended operations overnight on Aug. 5 after a drone was discovered, Bild reported.
The suspicious object was found next to a Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo aircraft. According to the media outlet, the drone was carrying an “unknown substance,” which may have been an explosive device with a detonator inside.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of sabotage and are searching for the drone’s operator.
As a result of the overnight incident, several aircraft were diverted to other airports. One cargo plane was forced to abort its landing and go around. Shortly afterward, according to BILD, about 6 kilometers from the airport at an altitude of 400 meters, it collided with an as-yet unidentified object. The aircraft landed in Hanover, where minor damage to its nose section was discovered.
