Germany’s Federal Prosecutor General’s Office said a Ukrainian citizen had been arrested in Croatia in connection with the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines.
Vladimir Z. was arrested in the city of Pula. He is reportedly a professional diver. According to German prosecutors, he was part of a group that planted explosives on the pipelines in September 2022.
Germany is seeking the suspect’s extradition. He is expected to be charged with causing an explosion using explosives (Section 308(1) of the German Criminal Code), sabotage (Section 88(1)(3) of the Criminal Code) and destruction of property (Section 305(1) of the Criminal Code).
Earlier, Germany charged Serhii Kuznetsov with involvement in the Nord Stream explosions. He was arrested in Italy and later extradited to Germany. Serhii K. is also mentioned in today’s German prosecutors’ press release.
It should be noted that in October last year, Poland refused Germany’s request to extradite diving instructor Volodymyr Zhuravlev, who was also suspected of involvement in the explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines.
In today’s press release, German prosecutors do not give the surname of the Ukrainian citizen arrested in Croatia. However, the letter Z could also be the first letter when Zhuravlev’s surname is written in the Latin alphabet.
