The third power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant may be commissioned in about 10 years. This was stated by Energy Minister Dzianis Maroz ahead of an off-site meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives. According to him, the national power system will be ready to integrate the new unit by 2035.
The minister noted that preparations are under way for a framework agreement with Rosatom.
“At this stage, we are actively working on preparing a framework agreement that will define the main conditions and parameters for the construction of the third power unit. I can say that an option is currently being discussed to build this unit as a full copy of those already operating at the Belarusian NPP, meaning a power unit with a capacity of 1,200 MW,” BelTA quoted the minister as saying.
The commissioning dates for the new unit have not yet been approved.
“However, we are already fixing one important point: the Belarusian power system will be ready to integrate another unit by 2035. As part of the current discussions, the period for commissioning the third power unit is being considered — tentatively between 2035 and 2038,” he added.
According to him, the power unit is planned to be built within the boundaries of the existing Belarusian NPP site.
