Uladzimir Arlouski, chairman of Belarus’ State Customs Committee, met with Nuriddin Mamajonov, Uzbekistan’s new ambassador to Belarus, who was appointed in July. The sides discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the customs sphere.
As the State Customs Committee’s press service reported, the main focus of the talks was facilitating an increase in trade between the two countries. Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to double their bilateral trade over the next few years. The goal was set by Aliaksandr Lukashenka and Shavkat Mirziyoyev following their recent talks in Minsk.
The participants also discussed the implementation of the agreement on the mutual use of electronic systems for certifying the origin of goods, signed by the governments of the two countries in 2024. The digital system is expected to simplify bilateral trade.
In addition, an Agreement on the Mutual Recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator institution has been signed to support these objectives. The document provides for a number of simplified procedures that operators will be able to use in both countries.
Following the meeting, representatives of the State Customs Committee and the Embassy of Uzbekistan identified promising areas for further practical cooperation aimed at increasing trade between the two countries.
