Speaker of the House of Representatives Ihar Siarheenka met with Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during his visit to Iran.

Siarheenka conveyed condolences on behalf of Aliaksandr Lukashenka over the death of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The Speaker of the House of Representatives arrived in Tehran to attend the mourning ceremony for Khamenei, which begins today.

“The passing of Ali Khamenei is an irreparable loss not only for the Iranian people, but also for countries friendly to Iran that, for many decades, witnessed his statesmanship aimed at strengthening his country’s sovereignty, independence and national dignity,” he said, adding that Khamenei had sought to consolidate society, preserve traditions and strengthen the nation’s spirit.

The sides also discussed the international situation. Siarheenka said Belarus would continue to provide Iran with comprehensive support in protecting its sovereignty and the security of its citizens. According to him, Minsk intends to maintain an open and trusting dialogue with Tehran. He reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to implement previously reached agreements across various areas.

Industrial cooperation remains the main driver of bilateral trade growth, with a number of joint projects under way, the statement said. The Belarusian side also called for accelerating the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas and educational documents.
