Speaker of the House of Representatives Ihar Siarheenka has arrived in Iran on the instructions of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, the House of Representatives’ press service said.

At Imam Khomeini International Airport, Ihar Siarheenka was welcomed by Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Hamidreza Haji Babaei.

The visit is expected to include meetings with the country’s leadership. The agenda is expected to cover bilateral and international issues, strengthening interparliamentary ties, and the implementation of joint economic and humanitarian projects.

It should be noted that the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s former supreme leader, who was killed in February in a U.S. strike, is due to take place in Iran today. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said representatives from more than 100 countries are expected to attend the mourning ceremony.

“During his working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Speaker of the House of Representatives Ihar Siarheenka will take part in the farewell ceremony for Iran’s slain supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The farewell ceremony will begin in Tehran today, July 3, and will continue until July 9. High-level delegations from dozens of countries will attend the first mourning event,” the House of Representatives’ press service added.
