Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou met today with Cuban Ambassador Santiago Perez Benitez.
According to the Foreign Ministry press service, the situation around Cuba was discussed. The minister “expressed unwavering support for the brotherly Cuban people, reaffirming Minsk’s position on the inadmissibility of the use of unilateral coercive measures”. He also stressed the need to resolve differences through peaceful dialogue and within the framework of international law.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on countries supplying Cuba with oil and petroleum products. This led to a de facto blockade of such supplies to the island, where an energy crisis erupted. Flights to Cuba were suspended due to the inability to refuel aircraft. Russia organised the evacuation of Belarusian and Russian tourists from the island.
During the meeting, Ryzhankou and Benitez also expressed a shared commitment to continuing joint efforts to maintain positive momentum in Belarusian-Cuban contacts, noting the coordinated efforts of Minsk and Havana to implement agreements reached during mutual visits at the highest and high levels in 2025.
