A Russian mining and processing company, Yelets Mining and Processing Plant, has won a court case against the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ) seeking payment of an outstanding debt for crushed stone supplies. The case was heard by the Arbitration Court of Russia’s Lipetsk Region.
According to the case materials, in January 2025, LLC Yelets Mining and Processing Plant (LLC Gornyak) and BMZ – the Management Company of the BMC Holding entered into a contract for the supply of limestone crushed stone. Gornyak fulfilled the delivery obligations, but BMZ did not pay for the goods in full. The outstanding debt amounted to 150.3 million Russian roubles (about $2 million at the exchange rate as of June 18, 2026).
The Russian company sent a claim to BMZ demanding payment of the debt and a penalty of 5.5 million Russian roubles. BMZ did not settle the debt, prompting Gornyak to file a lawsuit.
During the proceedings, BMZ partially repaid the debt by paying 2.6 million Russian roubles. The claim was subsequently reduced to 153.2 million Russian roubles.
The court ruled in favour of Gornyak. The ruling has not yet entered into force and may be appealed within one month to the Nineteenth Arbitration Court of Appeal, the court’s press service reported.
