In the first half of 2026, 11 minors in Belarus were convicted under articles classified by the authorities as “extremism-related.” This follows from statistics published on the website of the Supreme Court.
Nine minors were convicted under the article on facilitating “extremist activity.” One teenager was sentenced under the article on calls for sanctions, and another under the article on desecration of state symbols.
Overall, 239 minors were convicted in the first half of the year. Of those, 22 were sentenced to imprisonment, 54 received suspended sentences with deferred enforcement, and nine received suspended sentences. Two teenagers were exempted from punishment, while the remaining offenders were subjected to compulsory educational measures or other forms of punishment.
The statistics for adult defendants do not specify the number of convictions under “extremism-related” articles. Overall, courts of general jurisdiction handed down verdicts in 12,036 cases during the first six months of the year, with 12,676 people convicted.
