A 51-year-old woman has been detained in Minsk’s Savetski District on suspicion of stealing two Chihuahua puppies valued at 700 Belarusian roubles.
According to the Minsk City Executive Committee’s Main Internal Affairs Directorate, the dogs’ owner had been selling the puppies through an online marketplace. A woman responded to the advertisement and arrived for a meeting the same day. After selecting the puppies, she placed them in a pet carrier, promised to retrieve money from her car, and then fled with the dogs once outside. The owner attempted to chase her but was unsuccessful.
Police officers who responded to the incident detained the suspect. According to her statement, she wanted to give herself a birthday present. The woman had no previous criminal record.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of theft.
