Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office has announced that a criminal case has been referred to court against two men accused of organising the smuggling of a large shipment of Belarusian cigarettes.
According to the prosecution, a man identified as D. T. collected a semi-trailer that had been left at a designated location in Latvia. It contained 300,000 packs of cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise stamps and another 180,000 packs without excise stamps. The shipment is valued at approximately €2 million.
The man was supposed to transport the truck into Lithuania. His alleged accomplice, identified as E. M., escorted the cargo in a separate vehicle.
The plan was not carried out, however, as Lithuanian border guards stopped the truck.
