Dzianis Kuchynski, diplomatic adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, met in Washington with Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher W. Smith. Smith had previously travelled to Minsk together with John Coale for talks with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
“An excellent discussion with Chris Smith, our true friend and ally. On behalf of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, I expressed sincere gratitude for his tireless efforts to secure the release of political prisoners and for his principled, strong leadership.
I also thanked Mr Smith for the recent productive phone call between Tsikhanouskaya and the newly appointed U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus, Mr John Cole.
Separately, I expressed sincere gratitude to Mr Cole, as well as to the entire Trump administration, for their continued attention to Belarus, especially for efforts aimed at freeing 1,300 Belarusian political prisoners,” Kuchynski said.
During his current visit, he also met with Deputy National Security Adviser to the U.S. President and National Security Adviser to the Vice President Andy Baker.
