A powerful fire followed by detonations broke out in the village of Myla near Kyiv as a result of a Russian attack on Friday evening. Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the strike are continuing today.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said today that 27 deaths had been confirmed.
“There was a strike on a warehouse followed by detonations. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to infrastructure: residential buildings, a boarding facility for elderly people and people with disabilities were damaged. As of now, 27 people are known to have been killed”, he wrote.
According to him, one of those killed was the head of the Dmytrivska community.
Zelenskyy added that he had received reports from the prime minister and the interior minister.
“Those who allowed this to happen must certainly be held responsible for their decisions. Investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation. Criminal proceedings have been opened under an article concerning official negligence. There are regulations: ammunition must not be located near buildings or other residential development”, Zelenskyy stressed.
More than 370 people have been evacuated from the area. Headquarters have been set up at the site to assist people, and all necessary services have been deployed, including more than 300 employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Earlier in July, a military ammunition warehouse in Vyshneve, near Kyiv, was also targeted.
