Belarusian Citizen Reported Missing After Nepal Flooding Makes Contact

A Belarusian citizen who had been listed among those missing after devastating flooding in Nepal has reported that she is safe. On Aug. 27, she posted on Instagram that the other members of her group were alive and in the Darchen area.

“Dear all, I am fine, we are alive — our group is fine! I am currently very high up in Darchen! Thank you to everyone for your kind words and concern! I have a special request to relatives and loved ones: please do not discuss anything with my parents or child! I will be out of contact for at least the next three days! Thank you for your understanding,” she said.

A devastating flood caused by a landslide occurred on Aug. 26 on the border between Nepal and Tibet (China). The disaster was triggered by an earthquake and exceptionally heavy rainfall. The landslide blocked the Bhote Koshi River. The disaster resulted in numerous deaths and extensive destruction. According to the latest data, more than 500 people have died and more than 1,000 are missing, including more than 500 foreigners.
