An experiment with traffic lights is underway in Minsk. It is being conducted by the city’s traffic police in coordination with the Main Traffic Police Directorate of the Interior Ministry.
“As part of the experiment, at several signal-controlled intersections in the city, the yellow traffic light is supplemented with a white lunar signal indicating the type of conflict — namely, the intersection of a driver’s direction of movement with the paths of pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, or trams,” the Minsk city traffic police said.
The measure is aimed at improving road safety. Drivers are warned of the need to yield to pedestrians or other road users.
Experimental traffic lights have been installed at the following intersections: Sharangovicha–Yakubouskaha, Dziarzhynski Avenue–Gurskaha, and Nezalezhnastsi Avenue–Astrashytskaya.
