Border Committee Promises to Increase Staffing at Checkpoints During Long Weekend

Belarus’s State Border Committee said it will increase the number of border personnel shifts at checkpoints on the country’s borders with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

Earlier, the State Border Committee warned of a sharp increase in queues of passenger vehicles leaving for Poland.

“Belarus has declared four consecutive public holidays from April 18 to April 21 inclusive due to the observance of Radunitsa. In this regard, an increase in passenger traffic is expected at Belarus’s borders with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia,” the State Border Committee said.

As of 8 a.m. on April 15, queues were observed at three checkpoints. At Bruzgi, 81 passenger vehicles were waiting to leave the country, at Kamenny Loh there were 30 vehicles and at Brest there were 832 cars.
