The Belarusian Council of Culture has announced a fundraising campaign for Yuras Yurkevich, a Belarusian researcher and activist. He has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Yurkevich was born in Estonia and has devoted his entire life to work for the benefit of Belarus. He is one of the leading experts on the military formations of the Belarusian People’s Republic, initiated the installation of memorial plaques honoring the Belarusian People’s Republic in Tallinn and Francišak Bahuševič in Vilnius, contributed to the launch of important media projects, supported repressed cultural figures, and over the past year researched the issue of the cultural destruction of the Belarusian nation.
At the end of the year, Yurkevich was diagnosed with a brain tumor — malignant glioblastoma. After surgery, he developed aphasia, losing the ability to speak and write, as well as impaired function of his right hand. He requires long-term rehabilitation, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.
To assist Yuras Yurkevich, the Belarusian Council of Culture has opened a dedicated account. The fundraising goal is 15,000 euros. All funds from the account will be transferred for treatment without service fees. The money will be used for rehabilitation, including payment for physiotherapy and neuro-speech therapy services, as well as for medications.
