A district court in Kalisz, Poland, has sentenced a 37-year-old Belarusian citizen living in Jarocin, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, for the brutal beating of a man outside a local venue.
According to Jarocinska.pl, the man was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and sentenced to four years in prison. The court also ordered him to pay the victim 50,000 zlotys in compensation.
The sentence includes time already spent in pre-trial detention.
The assault took place on July 21, 2024, outside a bar in Jarocin. The defendant, who practised martial arts, struck the victim in the head with his fists, causing severe injuries. Forensic medical experts determined that the injuries were life-threatening.
Police identified and detained the suspect. Maciej Meler, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Wielkopolski, said the man had been charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm. Under Poland’s Criminal Code, the offence is classified as a serious crime. The suspect was placed in custody after being charged. He did not admit guilt.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force. The preventive measure of pre-trial detention was lifted by a court decision on September 16, 2025.
