Andrzej Poczobut has applied to rent a municipal apartment in Białystok. According to him, his children will live there, and he will stay there himself when visiting from Belarus. The application was signed today, July 28, during a press conference attended by Białystok Mayor Tadeusz Truskolaski, portalsamorzadowy.pl reported.
Poland has a program under which municipal authorities provide city-owned apartments for rent to people who meet certain eligibility criteria.
Poczobut thanked everyone involved in resolving the matter. He said that his children would live in the apartment permanently, while he plans to live in Hrodna and travel to Białystok.
“When I visit them, I will be in my own home,” Poczobut said.
In 2023, Belarusian journalist of Polish origin Andrzej Poczobut was sentenced to eight years in a penal colony. He was found guilty of inciting hatred and calling for sanctions. In April 2026, he was released as part of a five-for-five prisoner exchange and transferred to Poland. The journalist also succeeded in obtaining a Belarusian passport and was assured that he would be allowed to return to Belarus. Poczobut has said that he intends to travel to Belarus for the Congress of the Union of Poles in Belarus, which is scheduled to take place on Sept. 13.
