Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Valiantsin Rybakou has announced an upcoming meeting with U.S. presidential special envoy John Coale, to whom he will deliver a message from Aliaksandr Lukashenka. Rybakou made the statement after Lukashenka’s briefing.
“Just a few days ago, the United States formulated another set of specific proposals addressed to us. The president reviewed this information and gave the relevant instructions to the agencies responsible for implementing these proposals,” Rybakou said.
According to him, he plans to return to New York in a few days, where he will meet with Coale.
“The president’s message will be delivered to him. We will wait for the results,” he said.
Rybakou also did not rule out further visits by Coale to Minsk.
“We are discussing issues that we can resolve in our bilateral relations, as well as the next steps that both sides can and should take following his previous visit. Perhaps we will discuss future visits. I will not disclose any specific details or dates at this point,” he said.
Speaking about relations with the United States more broadly, Rybakou stressed that contacts remain steady and regular.
“Our contacts with the American side continue and are very stable and regular. In fact, every seven to ten days I meet with Mr. Coale, the chief negotiator on the American side, and other representatives,” he said.
