Aliaksandr Lukashenka said Belarus belongs to the global majority. He made the remarks while receiving the credentials of ambassadors from nine countries. According to him, the diplomats represent that global majority.
“Many of you represent the countries of the global majority, whose role in international affairs is growing rapidly and, most importantly, deservedly. The countries that belong to it share similar approaches to the world order, partnership-building and conflict resolution. They are characterized by respect for national sovereignty and the rejection of pressure, diktat and unlawful sanctions.
Belarus rightfully considers itself part of this global majority. Our history, the heroic yet tragic experience of resisting numerous attempts to colonize and destroy the Belarusian people, has made independence and the right ‘to be called people,’ as a Belarusian classic put it, exceptionally important to us.
I am confident that the shared views of the countries of the global majority will provide a solid foundation for your successful mission in our country.”, he said, according to his press service.
Lukashenka received the credentials of the ambassadors of Uzbekistan, Brazil, Peru, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Rwanda on Tuesday. Some of them are accredited to Belarus on a non-resident basis and are permanently based in Moscow.
Lukashenka also addressed each of the ambassadors individually. He reminded the Uzbek diplomat that the country is Belarus’s key partner in Central Asia. According to Lukashenka, he is ready to expand cooperation with a focus on industrial cooperation.
“We welcome Brazil’s growing international importance and its contribution to shaping the global agenda. For Belarus, your country is the most important trade and economic partner in the Western Hemisphere.”, he told the Brazilian ambassador.
Addressing the ambassador of Peru, Lukashenka referred to haul trucks and other products for the mining industry and agricultural sector.
“We expect that the mutual appointment of new active ambassadors and the entry into force of the Interim Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia will help expand economic cooperation.”, he told the Mongolian diplomat.
Welcoming the ambassador of Myanmar, Lukashenka said considerable efforts had been made to intensify dialogue with the country. A number of specific projects are underway in industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and the humanitarian sector.
“Relations between Belarus and the Republic of Korea are marked by healthy pragmatism. We are ready to develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest. We will welcome steps by Seoul to intensify Belarusian-Korean ties, primarily in the economic, technological and investment spheres.”, Lukashenka continued while greeting the South Korean ambassador.
Lukashenka suggested to the Saudi ambassador that they add “several success stories to the record of our relations and bring Belarusian-Saudi cooperation to a qualitatively new level.”
“We are ready to work with you, supply your country with agricultural machinery and pharmaceuticals, expand exports of Belarusian medical and other services, and, by transferring technology, train Libyan specialists in Belarus. I am convinced that the conditions for intensifying our joint work are highly favorable.”, he told the Libyan diplomat.
In relations with Rwanda, Lukashenka said the priorities are industry and agriculture, education, information technology, defense and security. He proposed establishing a joint cooperation commission.
