Nicaragua will purchase Belarusian-made fire engines using a loan from the Development Bank of Belarus. Nicaragua’s parliament has approved the loan agreement.
The National Assembly of Nicaragua approved a presidential decree ratifying a $13.9 million loan agreement to finance the purchase of 49 fire engines, tn8.ni reported.
The loan agreement was signed on July 6, 2026, between the Development Bank of Belarus and the Government of Nicaragua, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of the Interior.
“According to the explanatory memorandum, the loan will allow the country to continue the modernization of equipment used for civil protection, emergency response and public safety through the acquisition of Belarusian-made fire engines,” the publication said.
In 2024, the Development Bank and Nicaragua’s Ministry of Finance signed loan agreements to finance deliveries of Belarusian equipment worth more than $79 million. In April last year, an additional agreement on export loans was approved. Under these agreements, Belarus supplied Nicaragua with construction, cargo and municipal vehicles manufactured by MAZ and Amkodor.
