Belarus’s gross external debt stood at $38.33 billion as of January 1. Over the year it increased by $3.36 billion, according to statistics from the National Bank.
The external debt of the general government sector increased by $346.8 million last year and amounted to nearly $17.5 billion. All of these obligations were long-term. In the structure of the external debt of the government sector, debt securities accounted for $2.586 billion, while loans and borrowings amounted to $14.91 billion. Over the year, debt securities decreased by $76.2 million, while loans and borrowings increased by $422.9 million.
The external debt of deposit-taking organizations decreased by $162.2 million over the past year to $4.09 billion, including $1.48 billion in short-term obligations and $2.61 billion in long-term obligations.
The external debt of other sectors stood at $14.415 billion as of January 1. It increased by $3 billion over the year. Short-term obligations accounted for $10.58 billion, while long-term obligations amounted to $3.83 billion.
