Banks must allocate 60% of their profits to investment in the economy, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Roman Halouchanka said at the National Assembly.

“The target benchmark for banks is to ensure that the volume of investment financing increases by at least 1.5 times over the current five-year period, including growth of no less than 13% this year, or nearly 8 billion roubles. This will be facilitated by banks’ proactive policies and the mandatory allocation of no less than 60% of banks’ profits to investment in the economy,” he said.

In addition, according to him, banks face the task of increasing irrevocable deposits in roubles. This year they are expected to grow by no less than 40%.

“At the same time, banks will pay particular attention to attracting deposits with maturities of more than three years. By the end of the five-year period, we aim to increase the share of such deposits in the total volume of long-term deposits to at least 10%,” Halouchanka noted.
