U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale said he plans to visit Belarus in a couple of weeks. He made the statement in an interview with Voice of America.
Commenting on the release of Belarusian political prisoners, he said efforts to secure their release were continuing.
“First of all, I want to emphasize that work in this direction is continuing right now. Moreover, in a couple of weeks I plan to go to Belarus again, and I hope to secure the release of an even larger number of political prisoners. I think I will be able to do it”, he said.
Coale expects to secure the release of around 200-300 people.
He also again mentioned a plan to help secure the release of Russian political prisoners.
“Yes, I hope to work on that. I have already been asked to participate in securing the release of both American and Russian citizens who are being held in detention”, Coale said.
